by the freakin jehovah's witnesses...
a car FULL of 'em pulled up outside and
wandered to my house and the two neighbors.
already knowing what they were when they
got out of the car, i decided it best that
i not answer.
to make a long story short, they left...
leaving a nice little read under my doormat.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
WTF????
who the fuck do these people think they are??
i'm tired of being oppressed by the religious right!
what if there were a band of atheists walking
around handing out GD (literally) booklets
like these fuckers???
would they allow me in their homes?
would they allow me to speak MY claims??
would they allow me to attempt to persuede them???
HELL NO!
i flipped through that crap read and realized
that i could make the EXACT same pamphlet
but only on atheistic terms.
but would i be so common???
would these fuckers open their doors to me???
GAWD!!! I'M SO PISSED!!!
i could go on and on about the shit i'm
reading in this booklet. it infuriates me.
but let me just show a little bit:
EFFECT OF HOPELESSNESS
"Why do some people die while others, who may be no less ill, continue to live?" asks Dr. Stephen L. Stern of the department of psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. "One answer may lie in the presence or absence of hope." A study of 800 elderly Americans has suggested that hopelessness often leads to an earlier death. The researchers, however, point out that the effects of hopelessness often vary among individuals, depending on such factors as childhood experiences, depression, cultural background, and economic security.

GAWD!!! they must think i'm a friggin moron!
they point out that the effects vary because of what?!?!?!?
DAMN STRAIGHT! those 'other' factors play a
bigger part in early death than does hopelessness.
whadda friggin cop-out!!!
WTF DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE COMING TO
MY HOUSE, KNOCKING ON MY DOOR, AND INTENDING
ON TALKING TO ME AND HANDING ME THIS BS!?!?!?!
i can see myself now... going up to some
random door, knocking, allowing the person
to answer, then saying,
"Hello, friend. I'm here to talk to you about atheism.
Do you have a moment?"
~~slam~~
FUCK THESE PEOPLE! FUCK THIS OPPRESSION!
FUCK THIS HYPOCRISY!!!!
shatzy fumes

Dunno if I ever mentioned this before...
No shit, but I'm an ordained minister. So no "Mr." before my name, it's "Rev." You can probably tell just how "JesusChrispie" I am too, with a tank-top saying "Beware Of GOD" and all. Been a minister for the last 4 years now.
Just send a few bucks to;
Universal Life Church
601 3rd. Street
Modesto, CA. 95351
You'll be entitled to perform baptisms, marriages, funerals and conduct your own twisted "church" meetings.

I just did some reading up on Jehovah's Witnesses dealio.
Seeing as how I previously knew nothing on the beliefs and practices of the "J Double-U Crew'I find many of their beliefs interesting.
I didnt even know that Christ had already made his second return to earth in 1914! (although not physically).
I also see that they do not believe in hell and that unbelievers simply turn to a state of unconsciousness.
They believe that Jesus was not crucified on a cross, but rather a torch beam.
Two things I found interesting...
" During the year 2000, 6 million Jehovah's Witnesses spent 1.1 billion hours in various evangelistic activities in 235 countries, including the distribution of over 700 million pieces of printed material, and thousands of audio and video cassettes"
and
"Members who are found guilty of serious violations of WTS teachings and practices, and who refuse to repent are disfellowshipped. Fellow members are then required to shun him/her completely, having no contact. If the disfellowshipped person is a family member, the official position of the WTS is that they are to be treated normally within the family. However, they are made to understand that their actions are disapproved of. There is no discussion about church matters in their presence. Many families do not follow the official policy and totally shun the disfellowshipped member.
Disfellowshipping can have a devastating effect on a person whose entire religious, family and social life are grounded in the Society. It has occasionally resulted in suicide."
Sorry if this was all common knowledge.

As you, shatzy, already know...I grew up in Christian a environment...going to church and my christian school...I always heard talk of going door to door and witnessing and such...I never was much on doing it...but never saw anything wrong with it...that was until now...I have been out of the 'Church' scene for about 2 years now...and the other day I was over at my friends house...this was where most of our partying is done...when I drove up I was several teenagers and a few adults out in the street talking and forming groups...I recognized a few of them from my old school...I pulled around back and walked into my friends house...when I realized what they were doing...sure enough they came ringing our door bell...I must admit I felt very awkward...we felt weird enough that we didn't answer the door...at this point I saw how everyone witnessed to door to door feels...and came to the realization that going door to door is not only awfully rude, it is a horrible idea...the home owner feels very violated and uncomfortable...the longer I have been out of church the more things I see that bother me...1. is how you are treated once you are out of the church loop is totally different...2. church people just think they have an open invite any time they want...my parents started going to a church and of course they had random visits for new members...so, instead of living our normal way...we always had to worry about the house being clean or everything being cleaned up, just in case the church came by...what the fuck?...we are letting them in our house...how much time does it really take to set a day and time?...is it necessary for it to be a suprise?...3. 'fire and brimstone preachers'...some people like these type of preachers because they tell it how it is...and I guess that is ok in some rights but I think some take it too far...like I went with my parents to this new church...and the preacher said something that really bothered me...he was referring to dead people and that people that die get put up on a pedistal...and everyone automatically thinks they go to heaven...then he followed this with that this is wrong...they all don't...this pissed me off...here is my reason?...is this necessary to say?...what is so wrong with a little old lady like my grandma thinking my grandpa went to heaven...even if there is a chance he didn't...if it makes her feel better and sleep better at night...then let her think it...there is no reason to try and burst her balloon...and there is some others but I am tired of typing at the moment and I may post the others later...

first of all, let me say... that post rocked.
i'm very impressed, wes.
seriously!
now... on to business:

i can understand your concern on this matter.
however, i feel that many people think this way,
and i think its wrong.
not only are you insulting the intelligence of
the person, but you are also limiting their
area of perception.
telling someone that a person is in heaven (when
we really have no idea) is simply encouraging
delusional behavior.
its the same reason why children eventually get
told (or find out) about santa claus...
now i'm not going to get into the santa/religion
thing... simply because this thread would be
better served on GP.
but in regards to your post...
i completely agree.
the righteousness of invasion is wrong.
my point was, the tables are divided... they
are stacked and uneven.
atheists do not go door to door. they are
not congregating and plotting to get followers.
the hypocrisy is astounding.
it irritates me immensely.
